Der Vortrag wird auf Englisch gehalten.
What does the Arctic, the region with the greatest global change, mean to us? A short summary of the global economic system potentials of an Arctic Ocean with reduced ice-cover is depicted.  The change of the Arctic, elucidated on the base of world climate over the last 10,000 years and since the Industrial Revolution, results in essential transformations of geopolitics. This, in turn, perturbates the living conditions throughout the Northern Hemisphere.  The new Arctic Ocean is the only new ocean humanity ever will get, but our knowledge to manage it is small.  The basic challenge arising from the new Arctic has to be addressed by predicting climate change and knowledge-based ecosystem- and resource-management.  We also have to contemplate how to live in a new world as the changes in the Arctic impacts the entire Northern Hemisphere and its inhabitants. Serious alterations of our living conditions and economy are unavoidable and we have to adapt and make the best out of it: with determination and optimism.  The people of the High North, exposed to fluctuating climate and a forceful nature, may provide qualities that can be of significance to adapt to global change.
